Overview

Randomize Blocks allows you to present content to participants in a balanced, alternating order. This feature is designed to reduce the risk of bias in your research by ensuring that no single option is always seen first.

Randomize Blocks is a great fit when you want to compare multiple versions of a website, prototype, or app and need to account for order effects.

How It Works

Randomize Blocks is available on the Create Questions step of unmoderated projects.

Once enabled, you can build your study using any combination of Randomized and Non-randomized blocks.

Randomized blocks are sections whose order is automatically alternated across participants. For example, in a study with 2 randomized blocks, the first participant will see Block A first and Block B second. The next participant will see Block B first and Block A second, and so on. This rotation continues throughout your study, keeping results balanced.

Non-randomized blocks stay in a fixed position and are never shuffled. These are useful for sections like introductions, screeners, or closing questions that should always appear in the same place.
