Surveys are a great way to get fast feedback from large groups of people. With PlaybookUX, setting up and analyzing your survey is easy. We recommend having 200-1,000 participants for your survey. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when crafting your survey.
Best practices for setting up your survey
Define a clear, attainable goal for your survey
- When conducting a survey, it is important to have a clearly defined and attainable goal. This goal will guide the entire survey process, from designing the questions to analyzing the results. One way to ensure a clear goal is to identify the problem or decision that the survey is meant to address. Once the problem is identified, the goal can be crafted to address it specifically. It is important to note that the goals of a survey should be achievable. Setting unrealistic or overly broad goals can lead to confusion when analyzing the results. Additionally, clear goals will help ensure that the survey is designed in a way that allows for the collection of useful data for decision-making purposes.
Don’t let your survey get too long
- Being mindful of your survey's length can result in a higher completion rate as well as more thoughtful responses.
How many participants should I recruit for this study?
100 - 500 participants per study
Don’t ask leading questions
- Open-ended and unbiased questions are essential for gathering valuable feedback. Instead of using leading questions that influence responses, it's better to ask questions that encourage honest answers. Focus on one topic or aspect at a time to ensure clarity and depth of responses.
Configure Pages
- PlaybookUX features a flexible page structure, enabling you to create different pages for each question or group-related questions on the same page. This is particularly useful when applying skip logic based on the participant's answers. Set up all your pages for a survey first, then apply your skip logic. If you need to add a page somewhere in the middle of your survey, keep in mind it will reset the skip logic.
Apply Display Logic
-
You can use display logic to tailor a survey to each participant. By applying display logic, you can ensure that certain questions only appear for relevant participants, based on their previous responses. Display logic can be found on the “Logic” modal for each survey page.

Apply Skip Logic
-
Once all your pages are created, and you want to send participants to a specific page based on their answers, you can use the "Skip logic" feature. Click the "Skip logic" button to access a popup window. You can only apply skip logic to multi-select, single-select, and rating scale questions. Skip logic allows you to configure complex logic that enables participants to skip to different pages based on their answers. More information can be found here.
